SOLDIERS ON THE AVENUE, SOLDIERS IN THE BARS. SOLDIERS IN THE RESTAURANTS, SOLDIERS IN THE STARS. SOLDIERS IN THE HOSPITAL, SOLDIERS WHO WILL DIE. SOLDIERS IN THE ATMOSPHERE, SOLDIERS IN THE SKY. Amy THE PEOPLE I LOVE ARE ALWAYS BESIDE ME, I MEAN THE ONES I KEEP INSIDE MY HEART, THE PEOPLE INSIDE ME. AND I BREATHE THE LOVE OF THE PEOPLE WHO LEFT ME, AS THEY MOVE WITHIN MY REACH RESIDING ABOVE ME, I FEEL THE LOVE OF THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE ME, AND I MOVE WITH THE LOVE OF A CROWD. SOLDIERS IN THE THEATER, SOLDIERS IN THE STORES. SOLDIERS IN THE COURTROOM, SOLDIERS ON THE SHORES. SOLDIERS IN THE HOSPITAL, SOLDIERS WHO WILL DIE. SOLDIERS IN THE ATMOSPHERE, SOLDIERS IN THE SKY…

Mine Field 03:27
Matt LAST NIGHT I DREAMT THAT I WAS CAUGHT IN THE RUINS, I LEFT THE ARMY TO GO OUT ON MY OWN, THE SHATTERED WINDSHIELDS LAY LIKE SAND FROM THE BEACH ON THE GROUND. I LOOKED AROUND AND I SAW SOME PEOPLE LAUGHING, THE BEAMS OF LIGHT PROVIDED MOST OF THE SOUND, AS I GOT CLOSER A VOICE FADED IN FROM BEHIND… Company "THERE ARE NO SIGNS AHEAD BUT IF I WERE YOU I WOULD YIELD. SOLDIER, STAY WHERE YOU ARE, KEEP ALL OF YOUR WEAPONS CONCEALED. BEWARE OF DANCERS, DANCING IN AN ENEMY MINE FIELD". Matt I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT I THOUGHT AT THAT MOMENT, I SAW THEIR FACES THEY LOOKED HAPPY TO ME, THEY KEPT ON DANCING AND THEN ONE OF THEM CALLED OUT MY NAME. "DON'T BE AFRAID YOU SEE THE REST OF US DANCING AND NOTHINGS HAPPENED WE'VE BEEN OUT HERE ALL NIGHT", I STARTED DANCING AS A VOICE TOOK MY THROAT FROM BEHIND. "THERE ARE NO RULES HERE IF I WERE YOU I WOULD YIELD. SOLDIER, STAY WHERE YOU ARE KEEP ALL OF YOUR WEAPONS CONCEALED. BEWARE OF DANCERS DANCING IN AN ENEMY MINE FIELD. WOKE UP THIS MORNING AND MY SHEETS WERE ALL WET, DID I DANCE INSIDE THE MINE FIELD HOW CLOSE DID I GET? DID I TAKE A CHANCE LAST NIGHT? DID I VIOLATE MY OWN HUMAN SHIELD? IN A MINE FIELD SOMEWHERE ALONG THE ROAD, AWAKE, I WONDER , WHEN AM I SET TO EXPLODE?

Amy MY GRANDMOTHER PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR, MY GRANDFATHER'S STILL ALIVE. SHE HATED THE BLACKS, SHE HATED THE JEWS AND EVERYONE ELSE BESIDES. SHE WAS A BITTER OLD SOUL TELLING EVERYONE WHAT TO DO, ‘TIL CAMEL NON-FILTERS TOOK HER BREATH AWAY AT NINETY-TWO. IT WAS A LONG LIFE A RIPE OLD AGE TO DIE, BUT AT TWENTY-THREE I HAVE TO WONDER WHY, HATE CAN LIVE TIL NINETY-TWO AND TWENTY-THREE WILL DIE… HOW DO YOU MEASURE A LIFE WELL-LIVED? IS IT MEASURED IN YEARS OR IN THE PAINFUL TEARS YOU'VE SHED? WHAT WILL BE TOLD OF YOUR TIME ON EARTH, WOULD YOU LIVE IT AGAIN? WILL YOU MISS IT ALL WHEN YOU'RE DEAD? HOW WILL YOU MEASURE THE RICHES YOU'VE ACQUIRED, ONCE YOU'VE BEEN RETIRED? HOW MANY YEARS DOES IT TAKE TO FEEL YOU'VE DONE SOME GOOD, FOR OTHERS- SHOULD YOU GO- OFF AND BE TAKEN BEFORE YOUR TIME WOULD IT BE A CRIME? WOULD THE WASTED TIME YOU HOLD, BE A REMINDER OF ALL YOU COULD HAVE BEEN, WHEN THE REAPER DOES YOU IN? OLD IS JUST A MARKER, LIKE A MARKER ON A GRAVE. AGE IS NOT IMPORTANT, MORE IMPORTANT ARE THE MEMORIES YOU PAVE. I'D LIKE TO MEASURE OF MY LIFE IN TERMS OF DAYS ALIVE, AND PEOPLE I HAVE TOUCHED. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW LONG I'M HERE, WHEN MY MEMORIAL ENDS TO MY FRIENDS I'LL MEAN SO MUCH. I'D NEVER TRADE AT TWENTY-THREE, AS BAD AS IT APPEARS, THE LONG, SAD LIFE THAT MY GRANDMOTHER LIVED TIL HER NINETY-SOME ODD YEARS. OLD IS JUST A MARKER LIKE A MARKER ON A GRAVE, AGE IS NOT IMPORTANT, MORE IMPORTANT ARE THE MEMORIES YOU PAVE. AND THE PEOPLE WHO LEARN TO LOVE AND LEARN TO GIVE WILL KEEP ON GIVING. I'M LEARNING TO GIVE THE LOVE I FEEL INSIDE AND KEEP ON LIVING. AND YET KNOWING THE THINGS I KNOW I'M IN NO RUSH TO GO. AND THE PEOPLE WHO LEARN TO LOVE AND LEARN TO GIVE WILL KEEP ON GIVING. I'M LEARNING TO GIVE THE LOVE I FEEL INSIDE AND KEEP ON LIVING.

Peter YOU'RE FLASHIN' BACK AND PULLING PEOPLE OUT OF NOWHERE, FOREVER ASKING THE DATE. YOU'VE GOT ME CHASIN' AFTER PIECES OF YOU'RE MEMORY, IT'S SUCH AN ARDUOUS STATE. I USED TO WRESTLE WITH THE FACT THAT IT WAS FICTION, I TRIED TO KEEP YOU WITH ME, NOW I'VE SURRENDERED TO CONVENTIONAL CONVICTION, SOMEHOW I HAVE TO AGREE. YOU'RE IN A MOVIE STARRING EVERY SINGLE IDOL, YOU'VE HAD SINCE YOU WERE A CHILD. YOU SAY YOUR NAME APPEARS IN GOLD ABOVE THE TITLE, I SAY THE CRITICS GO WILD! YOUR MOTHER ENTERS AND YOU CALMLY ASK "WHO IS IT?" YOU CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME, AND THEN YOU TELL ME BETTY RUBBLE CAME TO VISIT, IMAGINATION HAVE YOU NO SHAME? DEMENTIA... WHATEVER YOU SAY IS TRUE DEMENTIA... I'LL ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOU DEMENTIA... NO MATTER WHAT IT MAY DO DEMENTIA... WHEREVER YOU TAKE ME, I'LL GO THERE WITH YOU YOU'RE DOING PUZZLES IN SOME AVOCADO KITCHEN, SOMETIME IN SEVENTY-FOUR. AND THEN YOU TELL ME IT'S ALL PART OF THIS CONDITION, THAT KEEPS YOU BACK IN BEFORE. SOMETIMES YOUR RECALL HAS ME DOUBT THAT YOU ARE SLIPPIN', THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR SPEECH. THE TV'S GOING AND THE CHANNELS KEEP ON FLIPPIN', BUT THE REMOTE'S OUT OF REACH. I SEE YOU MASTERING THESE OPTICAL ILLUSIONS, WHAT'S GOING ON IN YOUR BRAIN? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MANUFACTURE THESE DELUSIONS? DOES IT TAKE YOUR MIND OFF THE PAIN? DEMENTIA... DEMENTIA... SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT IT'S A SIN FOR ME TO SIT HERE AND CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE YOUR LINE. I SAY AS LONG AS ALL YOUR MEMORIES ARE HAPPY, THAT'S AN ENCOURAGING SIGN. I'LL NEVER COMPREHEND THE THINGS THAT YOU’RE PERCEIVING, I'VE TRIED TO DAY AFTER DAY, BUT JUST AS I AM HERE TO HELP FACILITATE YOUR LEAVING, SOMETHING ELSE IS HELPING TO TAKE YOU AWAY. DEMENTIA... WHATEVER YOU SAY IS TRUE DEMENTIA... I'LL ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOU DEMENTIA... NO MATTER WHAT IT MAY DO DEMENTIA… WHERE EVER YOU TAKE ME I'LL GO THERE WITH YOU.

IMPATIENTLY, I WAIT TO SEE VACCINE AND ME. AND ON THE DAY YOU ARRIVE, BABY, WE'LL BE STANDIN' IN LINE, YOU'RE LONG OVERDUE, WHERE ARE YOU VACCINE? DOOT DOOT DOODLE-DEE DOOT DO, HYPODERMA- DOOT DOOT DOODLE –DEE DO! DOOT DOOT DOODLE-DEE DOOT DO, GLUTE- UTE- OOT DOOT DOODLE –DEE DO! YOU CAME TO VISIT WHEN WE HAD SMALLPOX YOU HELPED US STAY AWAY FROM THE FLU YOU GAVE US ALL A CUBE OF YOUR SUGAR TO FIGHT THE T-B AND POLIO TOO NOW IT’S A WHOLE NEW CENTURY, ARE WE GOING TO SEE IT THROUGH? IT'S TRYIN' TO KICK ME- I WON'T LET IT LICK ME- VACCINE, WON'T YOU COME AND PRICK ME! OOH, VACCINE! YOU GOTTA LOTTA PEOPLE WAITIN' FOR YOU TO COME OUT. IMPATIENTLY, I WAIT TO SEE VACCINE AND ME. AND ON THE DAY YOU ARRIVE, BABY, WE'LL BE STANDIN' IN LINE. YOU'RE LONG OVERDUE, WHERE ARE YOU VACCINE? YOU'RE LONG OVERDUE, WHERE ARE YOU VACCINE?

Richard I JUST BURIED MY SISTER IN A PUBLIC GRAVE, MEMBERS OF HER FAMILY REFUSED THE ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE. I JUST BURIED MY SISTER IN HER FAVORITE DRESS, LUCKY FOR HER A MONTH AGO SHE HAD THE DAMNED THING PRESSED. SISTER WAS ALMOST PSYCHIC, WHEN IT CAME TO THINGS LIKE THIS, SHE'D THROW HER ARMS ABOVE HER HEAD, SHE'D CLOSE HER EYES AND PURSE HER LIPS. I LITERALLY BURIED MY SISTER IN THE PUBLIC PARK, I WAITED TIL THE KIDS WERE ALL AT HOME AND IT WAS MODERATELY DARK. I DUG UNTIL IT PAINED MY SHOULDER, I DUG UNTIL MY NAILS WERE BLACK, THEN I LAID MY SISTER IN HOME MADE GRAVE THEN I SHOVELED ALL THE DAMN DIRT BACK. SISTER HAD NO INSURANCE, FOR YEARS SHE WORKED FOR TIPS, DID BETTER THAN A WHOLE LOTTA YA'LL OUT THERE, SISTER COULD SYNC SOME LIPS! SHE LEFT ME HER WILL AND TESTAMENT IN A SEQUINNED DISCO BAG, SHE NEVER HAD NO STOCKS OR BONDS, BUT COULD SISTER COLLECT SOME DRAG! SO NOW IT'S TIME TO READ HER WISHES, LET HER FINAL LIST BE HEARD, YOU CAN TRUST ME TO ADHERE TO EVERY WORD... "OF SOUND MIND AND BODY, IF I EVER HAD SUCH A THING, I HEREBY GIVE MY SISTER BACK HER SMOKEY TOPAZ RING, MY WARDROBE IS ELABORATE BUT IT DOES ME NO GOOD NOW, THAT I'VE WORKED THE CROWD AND TAKEN MY LAST BOW. SO SCATTER MY BARBARA BUSH PEARLS IN THE RIVER! GIVE MY EARRINGS TO THE POOR. SELL MY BEADED GOWNS FOR CHARITY, SISTER CAN'T WEAR'EM ANYMORE. KEEP ALL MY HIGH-HEELED DANCIN' SHOES, WHO ELSE WHERE'S THIRTEEN WIDE? JUST WEAR MY PUMPS WITH DIGNITY AND PRIDE. PUT MY WIGS IN THE SMITHSONIAN, PUT MY PANTYHOSE IN THE TRASH! THE HATS I MADE EACH EASTER SHOULD BRING SOMEBODY IN SOME CASH. MY JOKES WERE ALWAYS BORROWED FROM THE PUBLIC DRAG DOMAIN", SISTER DID HER BEST TO ENTERTAIN... SO HERE LIES ANOTHER DEAD DRAG QUEEN IN A GRAVE A DRAG QUEEN DUG, IN THE MORNIN' THERE'LL BE JOGGERS, AND AT NIGHT SOMEBODY'LL BE MUGGED! BUT SHE'S BEEN LAID TO REST IN DIGNITY AND THAT'S THE LAST TIME SHE'LL BE LAID, BEHIND HER FAVORITE PARK BENCH IN THE SHADE. SO NOW YOU DON'T SEE ME CRYIN', NO MASCARA RUNNIN' DOWN MY FACE, I JUST THINK ABOUT MY SISTER IN HEAVEN LIP SYNCIN' "AMAZING GRACE", SHE'S ENTERTAININ' ANGELS NOW IN A BIG ASS RHINESTONE CROWN, IN HER FAVORITE FLAWLESS, TEAL BLUE- CRACKED ICE, BUGLE BEADED GOWN! IN HER FAVORITE FLAWLESS, TEAL BLUE- CRACKED ICE, BUGLE BEADED GOWN!

Peter I'VE BEEN BEAT UP I'VE BEEN SLUGGED, I'VE BEEN BASHED AND I'VE BEEN MUGGED, CALLED "FAGGOT" SINCE THE DAY THAT I WAS EIGHT. I'VE BEEN LAUGHED AT I'VE BEEN CLOCKED, OUT IN PUBLIC I'VE BEEN MOCKED, I'M OPEN SEASON HOMOPHOBIC BAIT. AND SOMETIMES EVEN MY GAY FRIENDS TURN THEIR BACKS CAUSE I'M "TOO GAY", AND TELL ME THAT'S NOT HOMOPHOBIC TOO, BUT I LEARNED SOMETHING BACK AT EIGHT, THERE'S JUST NO EXCUSE FOR HATE, SO I'M JUST GONNA DO JUST WHAT I DO. AND THE OLDER I GET THE STRONGER I GET, AND THE STRONGER I GET THE LOUDER I GET, AND THE LOUDER I GET THE GAYER I MAY SOUND. BUT IF YOU'D BEEN THROUGH WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH, YOU'D PROBABLY BE LOUDER TOO, STILL GETTIN' LOUDER AND I'M STILL HANGIN' AROUND I'M NOT HERE TO TOOT MY HORN, I'VE BEEN GAY SINCE YOU'VE BEEN BORN, GROWING UP MY ROLE MODELS WERE FEW. SO I LEARNED EARLY HOW TO FIGHT, AND I'M SINGING ON THIS STAGE TONIGHT, LOOKIN' AT ALL THE ROLE MODELS IN YOU. NOW WE ALL COULD TELL OUR PAINFUL TALES OF GROWIN' UP IN PRIVATE JAILS, MOST OF US WILL SAY WE HAD NO CHOICE. WE DON'T NEED TO RECRUIT OUR OWN JUST LET THEM KNOW THEY'RE NOT ALONE, AND IF THEY CHOSE TO THEY WILL HAVE A VOICE. Company AND THE OLDER THEY GET THE STRONGER THEY GET, AND THE STRONGER THEY GET THE LOUDER THEY GET, AND THE LOUDER THEY GET THE HAPPIER WE WILL BE. IF THEY SEE US FIGHT FOR WHAT IS JUST, OUR CHILDREN WILL BE PROUD OF US, AND THEIR CHILDREN MAY SOMEDAY GROW UP FREE. TELL THE TALE OF TWENTY YEARS INDIFFERENCE, GREED, AND LOTS OF TEARS, WILL I BE HERE WHEN ALL THIS MADNESS ENDS? IN THE SHADOW OF A GLOBAL PLAGUE, WHERE COURAGE PREVAILS WHEN HOPE IS VAGUE, THE PEOPLE DOING BATTLE ARE MY FRIENDS. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE NOWADAYS, TRYING TO BE THE STRAIGHTEST GAYS, A BRAND NEW BREED OF HOMOPHOBIC QUEER. TO YOU I SAY YOUR LIFE WILL BE A MYSTERY, TIL YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR HISTORY, DENIAL WILL MAKE NOTHING DISAPPEAR. AND THE OLDER WE GET THE STRONGER WE GET, AND THE STRONGER WE GET THE LOUDER WE GET, AND THE LOUDER WE GET The MORE POWERFUL THE SOUND. ALL OUR VOICES RINGING CLEAR, PROUD TO LET THE WHOLE WORLD HEAR, WHEN THE WAR IS OVER WE'LL STILL BE AROUND. WHEN THE WAR IS OVER WE'LL STILL BE AROUND.

Amy And the Alien Queen came down to Earth To see what she could find, And she found a young boy sitting by a tree. The Alien Queen addressed the child In a meeting of the mind, For her English was not as clear as it could be. Was the young boy startled By the sight that he had seen? Not at all he said: "Oh, look,Another alien queen.” But then he felt her power And he trusted she was real, So the young boy showed respect to her By getting up to kneel. The Alien Queen required no salute On bended knee, she herself, in awe with what she had found. She was willing to dispense with all the Pomp that she required, And chose to sit beside him on the ground. She told the boy her visit was to simply get away, From the rigors of her kingdom And the business of her day. His eyes began to tear but he hid them From his guest and said: "I wish I could Escape like you for I could use a rest." The Alien Queen responded in her heart She felt his pain. She knew the child was sick But knew not why. She asked him to reveal his ills In order to obtain the reasons why this child Would surely die. "I'M INFECTED WITH A VIRUS THAT HAS SEARCHED OUT CERTAIN CELLS, AND PERPETUATES ITSELF INSIDE THE CELL IN WHICH IT DWELLS. THE CELLS THAT IT ATTACKS ARE CELLS I NEED TO FIGHT DISEASE, MY SYSTEM IS NOT FIT TO FIGHT IT'S SLOW AND STEADY SIEGE". The Alien Queen reflected then Related to her friend, A similar disorder she had seen. Her planet too was struck with an unusual disease, That left her subjects feverish and lean. "DID YOU EVER FIND A CURE AND SAVE YOUR SUBJECTS LIVES?"
"Yes, we found a remedy, And everyone survives!"
"OH, ALIEN QUEEN PLEASE BRING US BACK THE MEDICINE WE NEED, OUR PLANET HAS NO ANSWERS YET COULD YOU PLEASE INTERCEDE?" The Alien Queen hung down her head And told him "I could try, but your planet Does not recognize what lies beyond your sky. The men who rule the Earth are quite Reluctant to explore the beauty and the knowledge That await outside your door." "THEN WON'T YOU TAKE ME WITH YOU AND ADMINISTER MY CURE THEN I CAN COME BACK HOME AND TRY TO EDUCATE SOME MORE?” The Alien Queen held out her hand And took the child away, And so we work to find a cure Til he returns someday.

THERE HE GOES MY OLDEST FRIEND DOWN THE STREET AROUND THE BEND, FOR WHO KNOWS JUST HOW LONG. WE SAY HELLO, WE SAY GOOD-BYE, AND IN BETWEEN WE PONDER WHY, OUR CONNECTION IS SO STRONG. YEARS HAVE PASSED WE BARELY SAID A WORD, DAYS HAVE PASSED REPEATING ALL WE'VE HEARD. THERE HE GOES MY DEAREST FRIEND, SO MUCH HISTORY I COULD SPEND, FOREVER REACHING BACK. WE LAID THE GROUND WORK YEARS AGO, WE LISTENED TO EACH OTHER GROW, AND HELPED EACH OTHER PACK. OUR DUTY STATIONS CHANGE ALONG THE WA, BUT THERE'S NOTHING THAT MY FRIEND AND I CAN'T SAY. SINCE WE LIVE OUR LIVES WITH OTHER FRIENDS, OUR DAILY CORRESPONDENTS TEND, TO FEED OUR DAILY NEEDS. SO WE USE OUR TIME TOGETHER AS WE WOULD USE OUR TIME ALONE, JUST TO THINK OUT LOUD OR PULL OUT ALL THE WEEDS, THAT HAVE GROWN. THERE HE GOES MY CLOSEST FRIEND, WE NEVER CHOSE TO MAKE PRETEND, WE DID ALL THAT BEFORE. WE NOTICE EVERY SUBTLE CHANGE, WHEN ONE OF US IS ACTING STRANGE, WE KNOW WHAT'S AT THE CORE. WE VISIT THEN WE GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS, HE LEADS ME THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF MY DAYS, AND OFFERS ME PERSPECTIVE WHEN I FADE, INTO THE PLANS I'VE MADE. THERE HE GOES MY DEEPEST FRIEND, I'M GRATEFUL I CAN SAY MY FRIEND, IS ONE WHO WILL BE THERE. BUT WHO KNOWS WHEN WE'LL MEET AGAIN, ME AND MY OLDEST FRIEND, ARE JUST A TEMPORARY PAIR. OFF INTO THE WORLD TILL WHO KNOWS WHEN, MY OLDEST, DEAREST, DEEPEST FRIEND, I WILL WAIT FOR YOU TO COME AROUND THE BEND, AGAIN... BYE-BYE.

Richard THERE HE GOES ANOTHER FRIEND, ANOTHER LIFE HAS REACHED AN END, ANOTHER SOUL IS BORN. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO HEAL A BATTERED HEART THAT DOESN'T FEEL, IT'S STRONG ENOUGH TO MEND. WE FALL IN LOVE AND HOPE THAT IT WILL LAST, WE FALL IN LOVE AND HOPE- WE FALL IN LOVE... Matt EXCUSE ME... DIDN'T I SEE YOU ON THE STEPS OF ST. JAMES? Richard MAYBE YOU DID. YOUR NAME IS- Matt RICHARD. AND DIDN'T I SEE YOU AT STEPHEN'S FUNERAL?
Richard MAYBE YOU DID. MY NAME IS DAVID. Matt AND DIDN'T YOU EULOGIZE JOEY DAVIS? Richard I'M SORRY BUT I DON'T REMEMBER- Matt WELL, THAT'S OKAY CAUSE I REMEMBER YOU. Richard HOW WELL DID YOU KNOW MY LOVER, TOMMY? Matt TOMMY AND I GO WAY WAY BACK. Richard HOW FAR BACK? Matt BOTH OF US WAITED ON TABLES AT HOULIHAN'S. Richard T OMMY AND I HAD BEEN LIVING TOGETHER FOR OVER A YEAR. Matt TOMMY ANDI LOST TOUCH. I'M SORRY YOU LOST YOUR LOVER. Richard LATELY IT SEEMS LIKE I'M LOSING AND LOSING I'M NOT LOSING AT LOVE I'M JUST LOSING THE LOVERS AND SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I'M READY TO SCREAM IT'S LIKE I'M SO FUCKIN' WIRED I WAKE UP AND WONDER “GOD, WHEN IS IT GONNA BE ME? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA TAKE ME?” AND MY SOUL IS SO NUMB CAUSE I KEEP IT INSIDE AND REMAIN, MAINTAINING A BODY THAT DOESN'T REMEMBER MY NAME. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ALL OF US GO, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER- Matt IT'S GONNA GET YOU GETCHA- GETCHA- GETCHA- Richard HIS FAMILY ASKED ME FOR A LIST OF HIS FRIENDS. I SAID "THE ONES WHO ARE LIVING OR THE ONES WHO ARE DEAD?"

Richard MAYBE I HAVE- Matt IF YOU HAVEN'T YOU WILL. Richard AND ISN'T IT A SHAME THAT WE NEVER SPOKE ON THE STEPS OF ST. JAMES? Matt AND JUST TO THINK, ALL THIS TIME WE COULD HAVE BEEN FRIENDS.
11.
Richard WHEN YOU'RE SPREADING YOURSELF TOO THIN AND YOUR VOICE IS ALMOST GONE, YOU'RE DOING ALL THAT YOU CAN DO AND EVERYTHING STILL SEEMS WRONG. YOU GOT THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD AROUND YOUR ANKLE, AND IT'S DRAGGING YOU DOWN. DON'T LET THE ANGER EAT YOU UP YOUR ANGER'S GROUNDED IN YOUR LOVE. WHEN EVERYDAY YOU FIND SO MANY PEOPLE WHO JUST DON'T CARE, YOU'RE YELLIN' AS LOUD AS YOU CAN AND THEY STILL DON'T KNOW YOU'RE THERE. SO YOU'RE BITING OFF HEADS OF FRIENDS WHO TRY TO EASE THE BURDEN YOU HAUL. DON'T ISOLATE YOUR FRIENDS, DON'T SEPARATE THE ANGER FROM THE LOVE. THEY SEE YOU'RE TIRED AND YOUR STRENGTH IS GETTING LOW. THEY SEE YOU LOSING SOMETHING YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER LET GO. YOU ALONE ARE NOT THE SYMBOL, YOU ALONE ARE NOT THE CAUSE, YOU ALONE ARE NOT THE ARMY, YOU ALONE DON'T CHANGE THE LAWS. YOU'VE GOT TO KEEP PERSPECTIVE, YOU DO ALL YOU CAN DO. THE FRONT LINES MAY BE LONELY, BUT THE FRONT LINE ISN'T YOU- IT'S YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND THEM...

about

"A pioneering work by a gifted composer. Every song Mr. Ogborn writes lights another candle in this time of darkness. With bold conviction, he has memorialized the courage of a devastated generation."
REX REED

“C’est la Guerre was originally commissioned in 1990 by the Painted Bride Arts Center for the first OUR LIVING LEGACY, and initially written in the span of two and a half weeks, “C’est la Guerre!” has lived for three decades in theaters across the country, having quietly set a new standard in American theater for honesty, imagination and engagement in the issues of our time. Mr. Ogborn’s conception of a wartime revue of songs from the age of AIDS blended pop, jazz, ballad and military march musical styles to move it’s audience toward activism and compassion at a time when the US Government showed little of either toward the people who suffered with this devastating disease. Mr. Ogborn’s work has given voice to a uniquely painful moment in American history.
